Migration, Adaptation and Ex/change

Migration, adaptation and ex/change: Victorian and contemporary culture was a two day colloquium held at MoLI on 14 and 15 November 2024, hosted by the UCD Centre for Cultural Analytics. This event explored questions of migration, adaptation and cultural ex/change through the lens of cultural analytics, in particular the use cases and new functionalities of the Curatr platform developed as part of the VICTEUR project.

Ranging from the Victorian to the contemporary era, speakers reflected on the role of migration in shaping narratives of national identity, in the development of new literary forms and in the circulation of cultural texts. The colloquium addressed questions of marginalisation and cultural formation and of race, ethnicity and gender, through the lens of data analytics, library collections and attentive reading of individual authors and texts.

The colloquium also analysed continuities and changes in Victorian and current cultural responses to migration through a dialogue between new modes of analysis opened up by data analysis and literary scholarship.

In this recording we hear from Professor Gerardine Meaney (University College Dublin).
